Mount Union Tightens Grip on No. 1 in AFCA Division III Top 25

No. 1 Mount Union’s 49-7 win over then-No. 4 Capital earned the Purple Raiders two more first place votes in this week’s AFCA Division III Coaches’ Poll.
 
Mount Union received 31 of 40 first place votes this week, an increase of two from last week’s rankings. No. 2 Wisconsin-Whitewater received the remaining nine first place votes after the Warhawks defeated Wisconsin-River Falls, 42-24. Mary Hardin-Baylor remains at No. 3 after the Crusaders defeated Louisiana College, 35-10. Wabash moved up one spot to No. 4 after a 37-12 win over Washington (Mo.). Muhlenberg rounds out the top five following the Mules’ 38-7 win over Juniata.
 
North Central is up one spot to No. 6 after downing North Park, 35-15. NCC’s CCIW rival Wheaton is No. 7 this week after the Thunder dispatched Augustana (Ill.), 26-14. No. 8 Washington & Jefferson was ilde this week but will return to action against St. Vincent on Saturday. No. 9 Cortland State got by then-No. 21 Montclair State, 23-17. Millsaps is up one to No. 10 following the Majors’ 46-26 win over Centre.
 
Two teams share the No. 11 spot this week. Trinity (Texas) is 5-0 after a 17-0 blanking of Rhodes. Co-No. 11 Wisconsin-Eau Claire is 5-1 following a 35-21 win over Wisconsin-La Crosse. Case Western is up three spots to No. 13 after a 28-7 win over Wooster. Wesley moves up to No. 14 after downing FCS rival Iona, 23-12. No. 15 Hardin-Simmons rebounded from its loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor a week ago to score a 40-12 win over East Texas Baptist.
 
No. 16 Willamette rolled past Lewis & Clark 76-10 on Saturday. Capital fell 13 spots to No. 17 after its loss to No. 1 Mount Union. No. 18 Delaware Valley is 4-1 following a 26-14 win over Lebanon Valley. No. 19 Salisbury outlasted then-No. 25 St. John Fisher to score a four-overtime 58-52 win. Hampden-Sydney is up two spots to No. 20 after a 17-0 blanking of Emory & Henry.
 
Otternbein is up three spots to No. 21 after the Cardinals improved to 5-0 with a 42-28 win over Baldwin-Wallace. Occidental tops the four newcomers to this week’s poll at No. 22 after a 28-15 win over then-No. 14 Redlands. No. 23 Monmouth (Ill.) is 6-0 after a 31-22 win over St. Norbert. No. 24 Carleton is ranked in the coaches’ poll for the first time in school history after a 49-41 win over then-No. 23 Augsburg. No. 25 Curry makes its first appearance this year in the Top 25 after a 59-27 win over MIT.
