There is a new No. 1 in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll as Abilene Christian (Texas) takes over the top spot after then-No. 1 Grand Valley State (Mich.) was upset by Hillsdale (Mich.), 27-24. The loss was the Lakers first conference defeat since Oct. 23, 2004, as they drop to No. 8 in this week’s poll. The new No. 1 Wildcats moved their record to 7-0 after a 38-14 win over then-No. 23 Angelo State (Texas). North Alabama moves to No. 2 and received two first-place votes, with Central Washington, Bloomsburg (Pa.) and Northwest Missouri State rounding out the Top 5.

Four new teams jumped into the poll this week, with two being their first-ever rankings in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Findlay (Ohio) comes in at No. 18, while newcomers West Liberty (W.Va.) is No. 21 and Northern Michigan is sitting at No. 23. Carson-Newman (Tenn.) re-enters the poll at No. 25. Findlay was last ranked in the Coaches’ Poll on Oct. 7, 2003.
