As a coach you get bumps, bruises, broken bones, and you can deal with them. When those kids start overheating, nothing scares me more than that because it's harder to reverse. The Gatorade staff has been fantastic in working with our student-athletes on campus doing extensive research over the last couple of years in regard to preventing heat-related illnesses and monitoring players in a better way. Anything that can benefit our student-athletes and their safety, I am willing to do it. Leading our university, one of our team physicians does a fantastic job for us and he's been working directly with Gatorade; Dr. Randy Eichner, here for the University of Oklahoma. I will give you some information that will help you keep your athletes safe in the heat; some clues as to what heats them up and how best to cool them down.
