The year was 1945 and I was living with my family in Butte, Montana. My dad was the Naranche Stadium announcer for both high schools. At the age of three, I was very excited because if I could be perfectly quiet and accompany him to the announcer's booth. From that fall until I became a varsity player at Central, I saw every home game for both Butte High and Butte Central. Because I had to be quiet, I could focus on observing the game. During that time, the dream of becoming a football coach was born. In 1966 as I was tromping around the jungles of Vietnam, I received a contract to teach and coach at Alameda High School in Jefferson County, Colorado. If I could stay alive for a few more months, my dream would come true....
