Willamette Enters Division III Poll for First Time Since 2010
With the weekend seeing three different matchups between Top 25 teams, the inevitable losses were enough to allow Willamette (Ore.) to find its way into the AFCA Division III Coaches’ Poll for the first time since Sept. 27, 2010, at No. 24. Willamette defeated Whitworth (Wash.), 38-24, to improve their record to 5-0 on the season. Wesley (Del.) keeps its spot on the poll at No. 6 after scoring the game-clinching touchdown in the last three minutes of the fourth quarter against then-No. 11 Birmingham-Southern (Ala.), who falls eight spots to No. 19 after the loss.
Bethel (Minn.), retains its spot at No. 7 after avoiding an upset to then-No. 23 Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) by scoring the go-ahead touchdown and two-point conversion as time expired in the fourth quarter. Mount Union (Ohio) remained in its No. 1 spot, with 41 first-place votes, while No. 2 Mary Hard-Baylor (Texas) took the last vote.
