National Champion Mary Hardin-Baylor Finishes Season No. 1

Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) finishes their season at No. 1 in the AFCA Division III Coaches’ Poll with their win against Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the Stagg Bowl. This is the Crusaders’ first National Title in proram history and head coach Pete Fredenburg’s first National Title as head coach. Defense was the name of the game on Friday. After Mary Hardin-Baylor scored their go-ahead touchdown near the end of the 2nd Quarter against the Titans neither team scored again, ending the game ahead 10-7. This was the Cru’s first trip to the Stagg Bowl since 2004 when they fell to Linfield (Ore.).

The rest of the Top 5 consists of John Carroll (Ohio) at No. 3, who squared off against the Titans in the Semifinals; Mount Union (Ohio), who took on the Crusaders in the Semifinals; and St. Thomas (Minn.), who lost to the Titans in the Quarterfinals.
