The AFCA 12 Don’t-Miss Experiences at the 2018 Convention

As we inch closer to the 2018 AFCA Convention in Charlotte, we want to provide our members with a preview of what to look forward to. Make sure you put all of our Don’t Miss Dozen on your Convention itinerary.

1. Registration, & Foundation Booth and Exhibits

When you arrive at the Convention, make sure your first stop is Registration. AFCA badges are required for all the events that you want to attend. Don’t forget to check out The Foundation booth and grab an AFCA cap or visor for only $10. Then, take some time to explore the AFCA Trade Show floor—with over 200 exhibitors on display, this is truly a DON’T MISS event!

2. Skills & Drills Fieldpresented by VICIS

With this brand-new addition to the Convention, the AFCA is excited to offer another opportunity to provide educational experiences for coaches. Located in the Exhibit Hall, there will be coaches teaching position-specific drills on Sunday and Monday. This is your chance to pick up a drill to take back to your team!

3. Kickoff Speaker

You won’t want to miss the first speaker to KICK OFF the 2018 Convention. We promise an informational and entertaining event to begin your Convention experience. This session is held Sunday, January 7, at 5 PM in the Crown Ballroom.

4. Buzz Sessions

You come to Convention to improve as a coach, so come listen to coaches breaking down the X’s and O’s by position. With multiple sessions at 6 PM and 7 PM on Sunday, January 7, find the session that’s right for you to continue your development within the game.

5. Divisional Business Meetings

These meetings offer a platform for all coaches to come together as the unified voice of football. Make time to attend your Divisional meeting on Monday, January 8.

6. Honors Luncheon presented by Amway

Come join us on Monday, January 8th, as we honor several coaches who are setting examples and making strides in the profession of football. Power of Influence Award winner Allan Trimble will be among those honored at the event. Tickets are $25.

7. General Sessions & The Pulse of the Profession

Monday, January 8, 1:30 PM presented by TeamSnap

The Pulse of the Profession with AFCA Executive Director, Todd Berry; a welcome from AFCA 2017 President Rich Rodriguez; followed by several intriguing speakers on various topics; and the presentation of the Power of Influence Award presented by TeamSnap to Allan Trimble of Jenks (Okla.) High School.

Tuesday, January 9, 8:30 AM presented by VICIS

NEW TIME with the same great football philosophy from exciting speakers, plus a special presentation to the new Club 35 Inductees.

8. Interactive Sessions

Be part of these new interactive sessions on Monday, January 8!

5 PM—Tackling Social Media: Having trouble managing your team’s social media pages? Learn how to successfully promote your team’s brand through multiple social platforms. Come ready to ask questions.

6 PM—Happy Wife, Happy Life: Navigating life as a coach is difficult on its own, but having a family to consider adds another dimension to the job. Check out this panel discussion with husband and wife teams from various stages of marriage and coaching career.

9. Tailgate presented by FieldTurf and Catapult

Who will hoist the Crystal Ball? This FREE EVENT features delicious food, cold drinks, and massive screens to watch the College Football Playoff National Championship with your fellow coaches. Doors open at 6:30 PM on Monday, January 8!

10. Breakouts

We know that there is much more to being a coach than X’s and O’s, and we have you covered. Check out these interesting segments that will jolt your creativity and provide your team with a competitive advantage next season!

11. Victory Formation Speaker

Informal, interactive, Q&A session with a Championship Coach.

12. American Football Coaches Awards presented by Amway

You have to attend the Awards Show on Tuesday, January 9! AFCA members and their guests receive FREE ADMISSION to this live-streamed event. Awards presented include the AFCA Coaches’ Trophy presented by Amway (The Crystal Ball), the Amos Alonzo Stagg Award, FBS Regional Coaches of the Year, FCS National Coach of the Year, USA TODAY Sports Coach’s Play Call of the Year, and the FBS National Coach of the Year.
