MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR FINISHES REGULAR SEASON AT NO. 1 IN AFCA DIVISION III COACHES’ TOP 25 POLL

For the first time in AFCA Division III Coaches’ Top 25 poll history, Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) ends the regular season at No. 1. The Cru beat East Texas Baptist, 31-21, to move its record to 10-0 and will host Chapman (Calif.) in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. The rest of the Top 5 remain the same with Mount Union (Ohio) at No. 2, Wisconsin-Oshkosh at No. 3, St. Thomas (Minn.) at No. 4 and Delaware Valley (Pa.) at No. 5.

Twenty-two of the Top 25 teams made the playoffs, with several Top 25 matchups in the first round. The toughest contest looks to be No. 6 Hardin-Simmons (Texas) traveling to No. 8 Linfield (Ore.) in a rematch of last year’s first round game, won by Linfield, 24-10. Other Top 25 matchups include No. 14 North Central (Ill.) hosting No. 7 St. John’s (Minn.), No. 17 Frostburg State (Md.) traveling to No. 9 Wittenberg (Ohio), No. 10 Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) hosting No. 19 Johns Hopkins (Md.), No. 16 Case Western Reserve (Ohio) traveling to No. 12 Illinois Wesleyan and No. 18 Berry (Ga.) hosting No. 24 Huntingdon (Ala.).
