FORT HAYS STATE CLAIMS CONFERENCE TITLE AND MOVES UP TO NO. 5 IN AFCA DIVISION II COACHES’ TOP 25 POLL

Fort Hays State (Kan.) used a stingy defense to break Northwest Missouri State’s 23-game home winning streak, beating the Bearcats, 13-12, to claim the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association title for the first time since 1995. With the victory, the Tigers are 10-0 and move up to No. 5 in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, receiving four first-place votes. The loss dropped Northwest Missouri State 10 places to No. 18.

Minnesota State holds the No. 1 spot for a second-straight week with 21 first-place votes. The Mavericks are followed by No. 2 Shepherd (W.Va.), No. 3 Indiana (Pa.) and No. 4 Midwestern State (Texas).

There are three Top 25 matchups in the final week of the regular season. The first is for the top spot in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference South Division as No. 1 Minnesota State travels to No. 13 Sioux Falls (S.D.). The second matchup has No. 20 Eastern New Mexico playing host to No. 4 Midwestern State as the Mustangs look to win the Lone Star Conference title outright. The final Top 25 matchup is for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference title as No. 7 Central Washington looks to win their first championship since 2012 as they travel to No. 16 Humboldt State (Calif.).
