Defending National Champions Mary Hardin-Baylor, Pete Fredenburg Open Up First Coaches Poll at No. 1

WACO, TEX. Mary Hardin-Baylor starts the 2017 AFCA Division III Coaches’ Top 25 Poll the way it ended 2016 – at No. 1. The Crusaders, who received 45 first-place votes, handed No. 15 Linfield (Ore.) a 24-3 loss to improve their record to 2-0. Mount Union (Ohio) comes in at No. 2 after receiving 7 first-place votes. The Raiders are followed by Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Wheaton (Ill.) and North Central (Ill.), who round out the Top 5.

There are only two Top 25 matchups this coming weekend, and the first is a big one in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as No. 6 St. John’s (Minn.) and No. 11 St. Thomas (Minn.) meet at Target Field in Minneapolis. The second matchup is for bragging rights in the Northwest Conference as undefeated and 20th ranked Whitworth (Wash.) travels to No. 15 Linfield (Ore.).
