Midwestern State (Texas) jumped out to a 26-point lead over Texas A&M-Commerce after three quarters and held on to beat the second-ranked team, 47-42, moving the Mustangs to No. 6 in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. With the loss, the Lions fell nine places to No. 11. Northwest Missouri State still sits in the top spot with all 34 first-place votes. The rest of the Top 5 has a new look with Shepherd (W.Va.) at No. 2, Indiana (Pa.) at No. 3, Minnesota State at No. 4 and Indianapolis (Ind.) at No. 5.
Two new teams entered the Top 25 this week with West Alabama coming in at No. 23 and Wingate (N.C.) showing up at No. 24. This is the first time West Alabama has been ranked since September 29, 2014, and the first time for Wingate since October 24 of last season.
There are only two Top 25 matchups this coming weekend, but they are important conference bouts. No. 3 Indiana (Pa.) travels to No. 9 Slippery Rock (Pa.) to see who will stay in the top spot of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division. The second matchup has No. 23 West Alabama hosting No. 22 West Georgia with the Tigers trying to keep their top spot in the Gulf South Conference.
