Dexter McCoil is currently the Defensive Coordinator at Texas State University, where he has been part of the program for the past two seasons. During the 2023 season, he coached safeties. Before joining Texas State, McCoil was on GJ Kinne’s staff at Incarnate Word, serving as the safeties coach and NFL/CFL Liaison. He began his coaching career at the high school level in Louisiana, where he worked with the defensive backs at East Ascension and Lutcher High Schools. McCoil played college football at Tulsa and had a 9-year professional career in both the NFL and CFL.

Patient Step to Kickstep
- Patient Step = Read Step (Press Man or Catch Man)
- Read step is 6-inch step that allows us to stay square & patiently read the release of WR
- Kickstep = Step Replace
- Kickstep allows us to impede vertical routes & stay square patiently, making WR run the “V” around us
