
Johns Hopkins Prevails in Top 5 Showdown

In a matchup of two top five ranked teams, it was No. 3 Johns Hopkins who stole the show at No. 5 Susquehanna. The Blue Jays scored 33 unanswered points to win going away, 40-22. Susquehanna closed within 11 points in the fourth quarter after two straight touchdown drives, 33-22, but Johns Hopkins put the game away on a 38 yard touchdown run by Geoff Schroeder. The Blue Jays remain No. 3 in this week’s AFCA Division III Coaches Poll, presented by Hudl, while Susquehanna drops nine spots to No. 14.
North Central still sits No. 1 after blanking Carthage, 62-0. No. 2 Mount Union was idle while No. 4 St. John’s (Minn.) beat Hamline, 58-0. Salisbury was idle, but they move into the fifth spot thanks to Susquehanna’s slide. The rest of the top 10 is different thanks to Mary Hardin-Baylor’s 26-6 loss to UW-Whitewater. The Warhawks jump six spots to No. 10 while UMHB falls nine to No. 18. UW-La Crosse beat Division II-member Wayne State (Mich.), 31-22, and jumps two places to No. 6. Hardin-Simmons remains at No. 7, followed by UW-Platteville at No. 8. Wartburg moves into the ninth spot after beating Simpson, 27-13.
Berry’s 17-9 loss to No. 20 Carnegie Mellon allows Hampden-Sydney to move into the top 25 for the first time this season. The Tigers are 3-0 after handing Shenandoah a 42-7 loss and will face Guilford this coming Saturday.
