Texas Survives Scare From Vanderbilt

Up 34-10 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Texas defense gave up 21 fourth quarter points but survived an onside kick from Vanderbilt with 33 seconds left to go in the game to win 34-31. The Longhorns move up six places to No. 13 in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll while the loss dropped the Commodores five spots to No. 16.
The top five remained unchanged for another week with Ohio State still on top. Upset losses by then-No. 7 Georgia Tech and then-No. 9 Miami (Fla.) allowed Texas Tech and Notre Dame to re-enter the top 10 at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively. The Yellow Jackets fell seven spots to No. 14 while the Hurricanes dropped nine to No. 18.
