Dear Chairman Cruz and Ranking Member Cantwell:
On behalf of college football coaches, the AFCA welcomes the recent progress of the Protect College Sports Act and strongly urges Congress to continue advancing this important legislation.
College football is at a critical point, and meaningful federal action is needed to establish a more consistent, accountable, and sustainable framework for the future of the sport. The Protect College Sports Act provides an important foundation for addressing many of the challenges facing college football today and establishing clear rules that can provide greater stability for student-athletes, coaches, institutions, and the broader college football community.
Specifically, the AFCA strongly supports the bill’s provisions on:
- addressing agent registration and accountability,
- standardization of the eligibility model,
- student-athlete transfer protections and limitations, and
- regulations governing the length of the college football playing season
These provisions address several pressing issues facing our membership and represent important steps toward creating greater consistency, accountability, and structure within the college football environment.
While our coaches may not reach complete consensus on the wide range of issues addressed in the PCSA, there is strong support among our membership for action in the areas outlined above.
The AFCA appreciates your leadership on these critical issues and encourages Congress to maintain its momentum at a time when the college football landscape continues to evolve rapidly.
Sincerely,
Craig Bohl
Executive Director, AFCA
