AFCA Urges Congress to Pass the Protect College Sports Act

College football is experiencing unprecedented popularity, but rules governing the sport are increasingly fragmented and uncertain. Student-athletes, coaches, families, and institutions are navigating a patchwork of NCAA rules, court decisions, and state laws that hold real academic, financial, and professional consequences.
The Protect College Sports Act confronts critical issues facing college football, and it addresses the AFCA memberships’ top four priorities that are essential to creating greater stability and more consistent national standards.
- Agent accountability: Require registration and transparency to protect student-athletes and families from deceptive or abusive practices.
- Eligibility: Establish a clear, standardized eligibility model that athletes and coaches can understand and rely on.
- Transfers: Protect an athlete’s right to transfer while establishing reasonable limits that deter tampering, misleading promises, and roster instability.
- Season length: Establish a reasonable national calendar that protects student-athletes’ health, academics, and recovery.
