South Dakota State Rolls Into Playoffs At No. 1
Having their bye week on the final week of the 2022 regular season, the No. 1 South Dakota State Jackrabbits got to sit home and watch the rest of the country play. The Jackrabbits already won the Missouri Valley Football Conference title with a perfect 8-0 conference mark, then learned on Sunday they are the overall No. 1 seed heading into the 2022 NCAA FCS Playoffs. They have a bye in the first round and will await the winner of Delaware vs. St. Francis (Pa.) on December 3.
Eight of the top nine teams in this week’s AFCA FCS Coaches’ Top 25 Poll received a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The only exception is No. 5 Jackson State. The Tigers don’t participate in the NCAA playoffs and will play either Southern or Prairie View A&M in the Southwestern Athletic Conference title game.
In other first round playoff games involving Top 25 teams, No. 10 Weber State plays host to No. 24t North Dakota while No. 15 Elon travels to No. 11 Furman. No. 13 Fordham travels to No. 16 New Hampshire while No. 17 Montana hosts No. 12 Southeast Missouri State.
