Geoff Collins, Former Head Coach – Part 1

On Part 1 of this two-part episode of Inside the Headset – Presented by CoachComm, we’re joined by former Georgia Tech and Temple head coach Geoff Collins.
Coach Collins reflects on his playing days at Western Carolina, beginning his career at the high school level, and the mistakes that helped shape him during his early years in college football. He also discusses transitioning into player personnel roles at Georgia Tech and Alabama, including the difficult decision to step away from on-field coaching when his goal was to become a coordinator and head coach.
During his time at Alabama, Collins gained valuable experience working alongside Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, and Curt Cignetti. He shares how that opportunity strengthened his understanding of recruiting, roster construction, and the organization required to build a successful college football program.
Because the full conversation lasted nearly two hours, we divided it into two parts so coaches wouldn’t miss any of Coach Collins’ insights.
